My latest for Gridskipper: Washington, DC, restaurants with health code violations

If my piece on Alexandria’s best wine values by the glass for Gridskipper was fun to research, my latest entry was not:

DC Restaurants with Health Code Violations

What I found most surprising was that the DC Department of Health doesn’t require vermin to be eliminated, just minimized.

If I were Stephen Colbert and were visiting Washington, DC, where would I go?

My latest post is up on Gridskipper:

The Stephen Colbert Guide to Washington, DC

This piece was harder to write than my normal reviews of DC’s cultural offerings, but I had more fun working on it. Despite the somewhat confrontational tone I took in the article, I do enjoy Colbert’s shtick, although it can be grating by the end of an episode. Of course, that might be the point.

Examining DC museums worth the price of admission on Gridskipper

My latest post for Gridskipper just went online:

DC Museums Worth the Price of Admission

Washington, DC, has a plethora of free museums, causing the ones that do charge for admission to be overlooked. This post reviews some of the better ones that cost money to get in the door. The National Museum of Women in the Arts and the Phillips Collection are my two favorites of the ones I profiled.

Reviewing Washington, DC’s, artistic and cultural renaissance on Gridskipper

Gridskipper published another post I wrote yesterday: Top Picks: New & Renovated Cultural DC.

It’s a response to an article in The Economist about Washington, DC’s, artistic and cultural renaissance. The piece is a little more, um, decadent than my usual writing, but that’s what the job calls for with Gridskipper.

A new wife and a new job

Two pieces of exciting news ’round these parts:

  • I got married a few weeks ago and then had a fantastic honeymoon in Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris (hence the dearth of posts recently).
  • I am now a correspondent for Gridskipper, “the decadent urban travel guide; scouring the globe for chic hotels, hot restaurants, sweet nightlife, and pretty people.” It’s published by Gawker Media (the same folks who bring you Wonkette, Lifehacker, and a slew of other popular blogs). I just submitted my first post (on DC’s independent coffee shops). It should be online in the next few days.
