Louisville coworking update (the last one?)

coworkingBetween my new gig as editor-in-chief of Louisville.com (which comes with a desk in a wonderful creative environment when I want it) and my new daughter (who’s a great incentive not to want to work out of the house some days), I’m no longer actively searching for coworking space in Louisville.

If you’re interested in getting coworking off the ground though–and I remain convinced that it’s both worthwhile and needed–please let me know and I’ll be happy to share what I’ve learned with you.

And it appears Hatch Creative is pursuing coworking space in downtown Louisville.

Louisville coworking update

I visited Butchertown Pointe last week and checked out the coworking space. Work on the venue is progressing well–it’s amazing what can be done with a building in just a few months.

Coworking space should be ready for us at the end of July. We’ll have another open house between now and then.

Here are some updated photos–for the full effect, the final photo is the one I posted back in February when Butchertown Pointe first contacted me.

Louisville coworking: Still a go, but not until midsummer

Thanks to everyone who came out to the coworking open house at Butchertown Pointe a few weeks ago. We had another great showing.

The good news: the building looks cool and will be the perfect space for coworking in Louisville.

The bad news: the building won’t be ready for us to move in until midsummer

We’ll have another open house between now and then though, so people can check out the almost-finished building.

If you are interested, please e-mail me at zach@zacheverson.com. In the meantime, here’s a new picture.

Coworking in Louisville open house: Sunday, March 29 at 2 p.m.

We’re having one more coworking open house before the space opens in a few weeks. Please join us for an informational meeting at Butchertown Pointe on Sunday, March 29 at 2 p.m.

1205 East Washington St.
Louisville, KY 40206

(Follow this link to the address on Google Maps.)

We’re holding this meeting on a weekend to accommodate people who have a job that precludes them from attending on a work day.

If you are interested, but can’t make the meeting, please e-mail me at zach@zacheverson.com.

And, again, if you’d like to learn more about coworking, here are some great resources on the subject:

  • Coworking wiki–probably the best resource on the subject
  • Coworking Google Group–a support and discussion network amongst people interested in coworking
  • Citizen Space–a popular coworking space in San Francisco
  • Coworking Space–an article on the concept followed by many links to web pages on coworking
  • Station C–the community manifesto for a coworking space in Montreal that a friend of mine is involved with

Louisville coworking: we’re starting in April

Thanks to everyone who attended the Louisville coworking meeting at Butchertown Pointe on Monday.

As the headline hopefully made clear, coworking in Louisville will be a reality in early April when Butchertown Pointe’s renovation is complete!

Between the turnout at the informational meeting, e-mails I’ve received, and what we perceive to be a city teeming with independent workers, Butchertown Pointe’s developers believe the demand exists to dedicate space in the building for coworking.

Here are some details:

  • The cost will be in the range of $100 to $150 a month.
  • Unlike your gym, there won’t be a long-term commitment (the whole point of coworking is to create a friendly, productive atmosphere of people who want to be doing what they are doing, where they are doing it at).
  • Butchertown Pointe will supply utilities, desks and chairs, and Internet access.
  • To keep costs low, coworkers will be on their own for services such as printing, faxing, and phone calls (although it’s possible for us to add them later if there’s an overwhelming desire to do so).
  • While the specific space will be allocated once there is a better estimate of the number of interested people, the area currently slotted for coworking is a loft with skylights. It’s also next to the building’s conference room, which can be rented by the hour (pictures of the construction site are at the end of this post). It also will have a lounge.
  • Coworkers will determine rules regarding use of the space (obviously within reason).

In a few weeks we’ll have another informational meeting for people who couldn’t make the first one. When Butchertown Pointe’s renovations are close to complete, there’ll be an opportunity to tour the space and sign up.

And after we move in to our new coworking space in early April, we’ll have a kick-off potlatch dinner.
